OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared details about the initiative, describing it as a mix of major releases and smaller updates. “We have some exciting things lined up—some big, some small. Hope you enjoy! Merry Christmas,” Altman posted.
During the livestream series, OpenAI is set to unveil its highly anticipated Sora AI, a text-to-video generation tool, as reported by The Verge. The tool, previewed earlier this year, has undergone rigorous testing, including “Red Teaming,” to identify and resolve potential vulnerabilities and biases. OpenAI’s former Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati previously hinted at its release, stating in February that the technology would be available to the public by the end of 2024.
In addition to Sora AI, the company plans to reveal updates for its recently launched ChatGPT Search feature, which enables web-based information retrieval within the chatbot. OpenAI may also introduce a holiday-themed version of ChatGPT Voice, featuring a Santa Claus-inspired voice and a snowflake design for its interface.
A major focus of the announcements is expected to be Orion, OpenAI’s next-generation reasoning model and the successor to GPT-4. According to sources, Orion has been trained using synthetic datasets derived from OpenAI’s advanced o1-series reasoning systems. This flagship model is anticipated to enhance the capabilities of AI systems significantly and could launch by year’s end.
Another highlight is the preview of an upcoming AI agent designed to execute computer-based tasks autonomously. Although this tool’s official launch is slated for next year, OpenAI is likely to showcase its functionality during the event series.
